Big Sur
2020 C. West Coast – Verna Lea, by Super Saver

Trainer: Greg Foley
Sire: West Coast
Dam: Verna Lea
Dam Sire: Super Saver
Foaled: KY
Sex: Colt
Color: Bay
Foal Date: April 17, 2020
Big Sur is out of the first crop by West Coast, a son of Flatter, who won both the Travers (G1) and Pennsylvania Derby (G1) at age three, and earned $5.8 million from 13 starts overall. He is the second foal out of the Super Saver mare Verna Lea, who won two of three lifetime starts. She broke her maiden at first asking at Indiana Grand and won a first-level allowance at Churchill two starts later, earning an 81 Bris speed figure. Even though her dam scored both of her wins sprinting, there is a ton of route class another generation back. His granddam Brushed Halory was a grade III winning router who earned nearly $500,000, and she has four siblings who earned between $200K and $800K. On both pedigree and physicals, this 2-year-old colt projects as a two-turn horse.
Owned in partnership with Tagg Team Racing & West Point Thoroughbreds, Big Sur is currently training at Churchill Downs with Greg Foley. We are targeting a fall debut.
