In a 50/50 partnership with J.S. Stables Brilliant Racing Partnership III purchased Man On On the Moon for $100,000 at the Ocala June 2020 2-year-olds in training sale.

He had a very solid, workmanlike breeze with plenty of reach and during our inspections he carried himself with a touch of class. “Andy” is by Distorted Humor, one of the top stallions of our lifetime. He has sired 19 grade 1 winners, including the likes of Drosselmeyer, Funny Cide and Flower Alley. He’s the third foal out of the dam, who herself was unraced, but she is a half to G1 Frizette winner Sky Diva and G1 placed Quick Little Miss.

Straightforward from the word go, Man On the Moon showed very little in the first two starts of his career as a 2-year-old, both around one turn at Churchill. He was a bit immature mentally, and one-paced, and we figured out quickly that gelding and stretching him out around two turns was the way to go.

He showed solid improvement over the winter at Fair Grounds, breaking his maiden in a $30,000 claiming dirt route. Following that race Andy had a difficult time keeping on weight, and unfortunately he didn’t show a tremendous amount of heart. He took a slight step backwards in his first start against winners, and then was claimed away from us for $20,000 in late April at Churchill Downs. We give our horses every opportunity to succeed, but it is also important to evaluate them properly and enter them in races where they have an opportunity to succeed. We wish Man On the Moon and his new connections all the best in the future.
